LA Times: "How the Democratic Platform Betrays Millions of the Party Faithful"

... the platform calls for the repeal of the Hyde and Helms amendments, which prevent taxpayer funds from being used to pay for abortions. This would force those who object to abortion to contribute to what we believe would be government-funded killing, and it would eradicate policies that have already saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

The 2016 Democratic platform is a flat-out betrayal of millions of Democrats, undoing policies that have kept us in the party working toward common progressive goals on a host of other issues.

Here are three other ways the 2016 platform betrays Democrats like us:

• It calls for repeal of all “federal and state laws and policies that impede a woman’s access to abortion.” Support for abortion rights in this platform is deemed “unequivocal.”
• The platform asserts that “reproductive health” — which includes access to “safe and legal abortion” — is “core to women’s, men’s, and young people’s health and wellbeing.”
• A commitment to religious liberty in the context of abortion, which was included in the 2012 platform, has been removed.

U.S. abortion law (which permits abortion for any reason until viability, about 22 to 23 weeks) already makes many progressive countries in Europe (which set their threshold for abortion at 12 to 13 weeks) look like pro-life radicals. Now the Democratic platform pushes the party to roll back even the very modest abortion regulations currently on the books.

And removing even a nod toward “religious liberty” from the platform puts Democrats at fundamental odds with the many religious organizations whose mission is nonviolence and protection of the most vulnerable.

In the 2008 presidential primary campaign, candidate Hillary Clinton said abortion should be safe, legal and rare. “And by rare,” Clinton emphasized, “I mean rare.” Yet her 2016 platform team has approved provisions that make access to abortion crucial to the well-being of every single person on the planet.

The Democratic Party's abortion stances have already caused many to leave the party, and many more will drop out because of the platform wording. The percentage of extreme abortion rights advocates is increasing in the party, but only because the total number of Democrats has shrunk to its lowest level since the Hoover administration.

NY Governor Cuomo : " ... conservatives who are right-to-life ... have no place in the state of New York ..."

Any disagreement with the governor and you're an extremist.

Cuomo has made a career of referring to anyone that opposes his agenda as “extreme” while simultaneously referring to that agenda as “common sense.” It’s code words and phrases over substance – typical liberal hackery.

 

Salon magazine - "So what if abortion ends life?"

Salon, the very left wing online publication, with in-your-face support for baby killing.

Here’s the complicated reality in which we live: All life is not equal. That’s a difficult thing for liberals like me to talk about, lest we wind up looking like death-panel-loving, kill-your-grandma-and-your-precious-baby storm troopers. Yet a fetus can be a human life without having the same rights as the woman in whose body it resides. She’s the boss. Her life and what is right for her circumstances and her health should automatically trump the rights of the non-autonomous entity inside of her. Always.

The article goes on, with links to some factually inaccurate stuff, and colossal disparagement for all of us "diabolically clever" (the author must believe in the devil...) members of the "anti-choice lobby"... "wingnuts" ... "right-wingers" .... The author strikes just the right tone for her effete readership.

Here's the last line of the essay:

... I still need to acknowledge my conviction that the fetus is indeed a life. A life worth sacrificing.

Abortion Group NARAL Picks Left-Wing Activist as New President

The abortion advocacy group NARAL has selected a left-wing activists to take the place of Nancy Keenan, who quit her position as its president citing the fact that she is older and the organizations needs an infusion of younger leaders.

Ilyse Hogue has been chosen to succeed Keenan as president of the organization, but she doesn’t solve the group’s problems in terms of its inability to connect with millenials. Hougue is not part of the post-Roe generations and was born two years before the Supreme Court handed down Roe v. Wade, that allowed virtually unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason.

Culture of Death Goes Straight for a Beacon

Eleanor Bader, co-author of Targets of Hatred: Anti-Abortion Terrorism, is outraged that the Sisters have been so successful in their mission to serve women, children, and families who feel hopeless in the face of a pregnancy. They take women in, they take their children in, they serve them, encourage them, feed them, and get them on their feet. They also serve women that liberal feminism, all too often, leaves behind: those who are mourning the loss of a child who was a casualty of the celebrated “freedom to choose” that isn’t always actually a choice, due to desperation and a failure to see viable alternatives. These are some of the most loving, radiant women you’ll ever meet. And young women! This congregation of women religious has been known to have waiting lists full of women who want to join them in their charism for life.

For all this, the Sisters are “Stoking Fire,” the piece insists. That, or serving their fellow women (among others).

Bader portrays these women as Sisters Moneybags, accumulating convents and other property in a city where non-fetal people (as the RH Reality Check stylebook might have it) are struggling. The Sisters, however, don’t actually own any real estate. Their convents are owned by parishes or the Knights of Columbus. These women take vows of poverty and live them.

Crisis Pregnancy Centers in fierce struggle for life with New York City Council

Crisis pregnancy centers stand up for life at City Council

On November 16, Theresa Bonopartis, Chris Slattery and representatives for and against the Council Legislation #371 met in Council chambers to speak their minds and hearts about the Council's attempt to curtail, fine, and eventually shut down crisis pregnancy centers throughout the City and they hope, nationwide.

"This is about truth in advertising and women's health," said Council Member Jessica Lappin, the bill's primary sponsor. "There are two dozen anti-choice centers masquerading as health clinics right here in New York City….Rather than provide full and accurate medical information to women they mislead and manipulate them."

But abortion opponents defended the centers as providing legitimate counseling and an alternative for women who don't want to have an abortion. They called the proposal a violation of First Amendment rights and threatened legal action if it passes.

Chris Slattery, president of Expectant Mother Care Frontline Pregnancy Centers, which operates 12 centers, said some of its centers have medical affiliations and licensed staff. He acknowledged that not all of them do and that licensed staff isn't always on the premises. "We can document thousands of experiences, negative, at abortion clinics in New York," he testified

This legislation is an embarrassment, even by New York standards. Where are the champions of the First Amendment? Do other legitimate businesses understand how this type of coercive legislation will effect them? Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other organizations that are fed monetarily and politically by the abortion industry are hungry for more. This time it is retribution against the success of pregnancy care centers that are trying to give women a choice other than abortion. I thought we were all interested in fewer abortions? Remember "safe, legal and rare"? This legislation rips the masks off those pretenders. Let your voices be heard, citizens!
