The pro-abortion/pro-choice wing of the Catholic Church is after him. Their petition denouncing his position regarding pro-abortion Catholic politicians has received 19,000 signatures (or so they say).

A left-wing group wants Archbishop Joseph Naumann fired. Naumann, of course, is the chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities. He has spent his life as a priest and bishop courageously defending the sanctity of life.
Their charge: Naumann’s criticisms of Joe Biden’s pro-abortion policies are scandalous!
The radical left-wing group, Faith in Public Life, has said Archbishop Naumann’s “personal, single-issue, culture-war attacks” are “dangerous.” They are especially angry that Naumann took issue with Biden calling himself a “devout Catholic” while advocating for taxpayer funded abortion.
So what has Naumann actually said?
On Biden, Naumann has been clear: “I want to protect my people from being misled. His actions, right now, do mislead… [t]hey do create confusion for people in terms of what the Church believes and teaches.”
This is exactly what must be said! The scandal is Joe Biden, not Archbishop Naumann.
That’s why I’ve just signed an Open Letter to Archbishop Joseph Naumann letting him know that faithful Catholics have his back and stand with him. Several other national pro-life leaders have signed the letter as well, and we expect more to join every day.

Our bishops are often (sometimes justly) criticized. But we should be equally outspoken in thanking them when they courageously defend the teachings of our Church.

In 2013, Pope Francis said:
“We should commit ourselves to ‘eucharistic coherence,’ that is, we should be conscious that people cannot receive Holy Communion and at the same time act or speak against the commandments, in particular when abortion, euthanasia, and other serious crimes against life and family are facilitated. This responsibility applies particularly to legislators, governors, and health professionals.”

Biden “doesn’t believe what we believe about the sacredness of human life,” Naumann said, according to the Daily Wire. And unless he repents, he should not receive the Eucharist, the archbishop continued.
“Obviously, the president doesn’t believe what we believe about the sacredness of human life, or he wouldn’t be taking the actions that he is,” Naumann said. “And yet, he continues to receive the Eucharist. We can’t judge his heart. But we consider the action itself a grave moral evil.”
He said the president’s repeated claims to faith coupled with his anti-Catholic policies have created a difficult challenge for Catholic leaders.
“One of the issues is the extent to which he supports legalized abortion, even to the point of wanting all Americans to fund abortion,” Naumann said. “But the bigger issue, for us … is that he does these things, and then in reply to questions about them, he or his press secretary says, ‘Biden’s a devout Catholic.’ Whether he intends it or not, he’s basically saying to people, ‘You can be a good Catholic and do similar things.’”
Biden already has made abortion on demand a priority in his administration. Just two days after taking office, he celebrated the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that led to the unnecessary killing of more than 62 million unborn babies in abortions.

As she mentions the CDC says 400-500 people survive being aborted every year. Melissa was at a fundraiser in White Plains in 2019. She was saved in 1977 by a nurse who rushed her to the hospital neonatal unit. Ultimately Melissa was adopted. She has an MSW degree. Her story is compelling - especially about tracking down her biological relations (including her birth mother) who she now has a close relationship with. Not mentioned - the abortion attempt was a saline abortion. Astonishing she has no disabilities.

Most of Pope Francis comments on the right to life from conception to natural death are suppressed by the media. But you already knew that. We loved his comment a couple of years ago that abortionists were "Nazis wearing white gloves."
“It is painful to note that under the pretext of guaranteeing presumed subjective rights, a growing number of legal systems in our world seem to be moving away from their inalienable duty to protect human life at every one of its phases,” the pope said, noting how the so-called “right” to abortion destroys unborn babies’ right to life.

The pope said society must respect the right to life for every human being, born and unborn.
“If we deprive the weakest among us of the right to life, how can we effectively guarantee respect for every other right?” he questioned.
Every person “is an end in himself or herself, and never simply a means to be valued only for his or her usefulness,” the pope said. “Persons are created to live together in families, communities and societies, where all are equal in dignity.”
Many times, Pope Francis has condemned abortion and urged Christians to protect every human life. In 2018, he caused outrage among abortion activists after comparing abortion to “hiring a hitman” to kill unborn babies. He frequently describes aborted babies as victims of a “throwaway culture” and encourages society to recognize their value.

If true, certainly wonderful news. One down, 49 to go.
“While the [St. Louis] Planned Parenthood remains open and licensed for abortions, we confirmed that none are being done there. … There is no operational abortion facility in the State of Missouri, making it the first Abortion-Free State at this time,” Operation Rescue president Troy Newman said last week.
Instead, the group found that the St. Louis facility is referring women to a new Planned Parenthood a few miles across the border in Illinois for abortions.
The St. Louis facility still has a license to do abortions, but it apparently is choosing not to. Newman said he believes the reason is because Planned Parenthood does not want to comply with Missouri’s pro-life laws.
“It is obvious that Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region … seeks to avoid having to comply with Missouri’s strong pro-life laws, and has opted to abort in Illinois where abortion facilities are essentially unaccountable,” Newman said. “This shows a gross disrespect for the lives and safety of the women Planned Parenthood purports to serve.”

As you’ll see, this petition simply urges your U.S. Representative and Senators to protect the taxpayers’ conscience by defending the Hyde Amendment and blocking direct taxpayer funding of all abortion.
Frankly, I’m afraid you and I are behind the eight ball right now.
You see, even as recently as when he was Barack Obama’s Vice President, Joe Biden claimed to support Hyde Amendment protections.
But during his presidential campaign he reversed his position – caving into Planned Parenthood’s favorite politicians – Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar.
And House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has said repeal of the Hyde Amendment is “long overdue,” all but promising repeal is in her cross hairs THIS YEAR.
In fact, just weeks ago, the Democrat-run Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee held a hearing on the Hyde Amendment.
Their conclusion?
That blocking direct taxpayer funding of abortion is somehow “racist and discriminatory!”
The truth is, pro-abortion politicians know repealing the Hyde Amendment will line the pockets of their pals at Planned Parenthood who will return the favor by funding their political campaigns to the tune of millions of dollars.
And the bottom line is, more taxpayer funding for abortion means more abortion.

“Give thanks to the Lord for He is good His mercy endures forever!
Wishing you all a very blessed Christmas! I really miss seeing everyone and although we did do a Day of Prayer & Healing in November on Long Island, most things have been canceled or are being rescheduled due to the virus.
Entering Canaan continues to grow across the country. Pensecola, Florida just had their first Day of Prayer and Healing this past weekend. Indiana and Kentucky who were going to hold retreats in the fall, are now planning for the spring, and the Arlington, VA diocese just held their second Mercy retreat ! It is really exciting to see God working!
If you are able to send a donation to Reclaiming Our Children for Entering Canaan it would be deeply appreciated. I am working on updating the manuals and getting the sibling one finished. Entering Canaan runs on a shoe-string, at the present time there are no salaries so all the work is volunteer. We are hidden and quiet, but the Lord is doing great things!. All we get goes into the ministry in order to have retreats, and keep the cost low or non -existent, especially for the siblings and anyone who cannot afford them.
Advent can be a very difficult time of year for many who have experienced abortion. There are so many “connectors” all over the place! Children we would love to be buying toys for that are not here. Mary’s “yes” a reminder of our “no”. It seems no matter where you look it is a trigger in an already stressful time, and oftentimes we do not even realize our abortion experiences are the reason for what we are experiencing. If you have not heard it yet Nancy Tanner Givens and I did a podcast on this for Lumina which you can listen to here . If you know anyone you think it may be helpful to pass it on.
It is good during this time to focus on the “Birth of Mercy” wThat God in His goodness sent His Son into the world for us so that we may have salvation. This time, this celebration of the birth of Christ, really is a time of great mercy.

Despite all that is happening I daily remind myself of so much I have to be grateful for and that ALL things work together for our salvation even if we do not understand them at the time. As we prepare for Christ's birth, we should always remember this so that the promptings of sadness or despair may feel in these difficult times turn into “comfort and joy” ! Our Savior, who died for our sins, is born to us!

This is a direct opposition/contradiction to Cardinal Wilton Gregory of Washington who said no problem for communion to the "devout Catholic" pro-abortion President-elect Biden. The Archbishop's article was posted online yesterday on the First Things website. interestingly, Charles Chaput as a young man worked on the Jimmy Carter campaign. You can bet the knives will be out for Chaput in certain parts of the media.
We have excerpted most of his article; hit the link to read in full.
Mr. Biden and the Matter of Scandal
Readers may recall that during the 2004 presidential campaign, Sen. John Kerry led the Democratic ticket. As a Catholic, Kerry held certain policy views that conflicted with the moral beliefs of his Church. This led to internal tensions among U.S. bishops about how to handle the matter of Holy Communion for Catholic public officials who publicly and persistently diverge from Catholic teaching on issues like abortion. At the time, Washington’s then-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, along with Pittsburgh’s Bishop Donald Wuerl, had very different views from my own regarding how to proceed.
I believed then, and believe now, that publicly denying Communion to public officials is not always wise or the best pastoral course. Doing so in a loud and forceful manner may cause more harm than good by inviting the official to bask in the media glow of victimhood. What I opposed in 2004, however, was any seeming indifference to the issue, any hint in a national bishops’ statement or policy that would give bishops permission to turn their heads away from the gravity of a very serious issue. At the time, fortunately, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith resolved any confusion about correct practice in these matters with its July 2004 memorandum to then-Cardinal McCarrick, Worthiness to Receive Holy Communion: General Principles. It includes the following passage:
5. Regarding the grave sin of abortion or euthanasia, when a person’s formal cooperation becomes manifest (understood, in the case of a Catholic politician, as his consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws), his Pastor should meet with him, instructing him about the Church’s teaching, informing him that he is not to present himself for Holy Communion until he brings to an end the objective situation of sin, and warning him that he will otherwise be denied the Eucharist.
6. When “these precautionary measures have not had their effect or in which they were not possible,” and the person in question, with obstinate persistence, still presents himself to receive the Holy Eucharist, “the minister of Holy Communion must refuse to distribute it” (cf. Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts Declaration “Holy Communion and Divorced, Civilly Remarried Catholics” [2002], nos. 3-4). This decision, properly speaking, is not a sanction or a penalty. Nor is the minister of Holy Communion passing judgment on the person’s subjective guilt, but rather is reacting to the person’s public unworthiness to receive Holy Communion due to an objective situation of sin.
To my knowledge, that statement remains in effect. And it reflects longstanding Catholic sacramental discipline based on the Word of God.
The implications for the present moment are clear. Public figures who identify as “Catholic” give scandal to the faithful when receiving Communion by creating the impression that the moral laws of the Church are optional. And bishops give similar scandal by not speaking up publicly about the issue and danger of sacrilege.

Those bishops who publicly indicate in advance that they will undertake their own dialogue with President-elect Joseph Biden and allow him Communion effectively undermine the work of the task force established at the November bishops’ conference meeting to deal precisely with this and related issues. This gives scandal to their brother bishops and priests, and to the many Catholics who struggle to stay faithful to Church teaching. It does damage to the bishops’ conference, to the meaning of collegiality, and to the fruitfulness of the conference’s advocacy work with the incoming administration.

When bishops publicly announce their willingness to give Communion to Mr. Biden, without clearly teaching the gravity of his facilitating the evil of abortion (and his approval of same-sex relationships), they do a serious disservice to their brother bishops and their people. The reason is obvious. By his actions during the course of his public life, Mr. Biden has demonstrated that he is not in full communion with the Catholic Church. To his credit, he has championed many causes and issues that do serve the common good. However, many of his actions and words have also supported or smoothed the way for grave moral evils in our public life that have resulted in the destruction of millions of innocent lives. Mr. Biden has said that he will continue to advance those same policies as president, and thus should not receive Holy Communion. His stated intention requires a strong and consistent response from Church leaders and faithful.
This is not a “political” matter, and those who would describe it as such are either ignorant or willfully confusing the issue. This is a matter of bishops’ unique responsibility before the Lord for the integrity of the sacraments. Moreover, there is also the pressing matter of pastoral concern for a man’s salvation. At minimum, every bishop has the duty of privately discussing these vital moral issues and the destructive effect of receiving Communion unworthily with public figures who act contrary to Church teaching. Reception of Communion is not a right but a gift and privilege; and on the subject of “rights,” the believing community has a priority right to the integrity of its belief and practice.
In the year ahead, a great many people will be watching our nation’s Catholic leadership. They will be led, for good or for ill, by the witness of America’s bishops.

Let's hope the vote holds up!
All 24 counties conducted a recount of results in Iowa’s Second Congressional District and the official numbers following the recount show Mariannette Miller-Meeks winning over Rita Hart by six votes, 196,964-196,958. It’s the closest race in the country, and a legal challenge to the results is likely.
The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) celebrated the victory and informed LifeNews.com that Miller-Meeks is the 18th new pro-life woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives this year, joining 11 returning incumbents.
Of the 18 newly-elected women, ten have flipped seats formerly held by pro-abortion Democrats.
“A record 29 pro-life women will serve in the House of Representatives in the next Congress: continued proof that life is winning in America,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “These pro-life champions will serve as a brick wall against the radical pro-abortion agenda of Speaker Pelosi and pro-abortion Democrats dead set on taking out even modest protections for pro-life Americans such as the Hyde Amendment and similar legacy riders.“The exponential growth of pro-life women in the House is reflective of the fact that life has gone from being viewed as a political problem to a winning issue. These women have already done important work to expose the extremism of their radical pro-abortion opponents and we look forward to working alongside them to depend lifesaving law and policy in Congress.”

More babies Saved from Abortion Than Ever
The new CDC report covers the year 2018 and confirms America’s abortion decline continues. The report indicates the number of babies killed in abortions has declined 1.4% from 2016-2018 and the abortion rate — the percentage of women having an abortion or choosing life for their baby — has declined 2.% as more women opt against abortion.
The abortion decline was widespread. Not every state reports its abortion data to the CDC, but of the states that do 29 of them saw declines in their abortion rates. California, Maryland, and New Hampshire ddid not report abortion statistics to the CDC and, as a result, the actual number of babies killed in abortions is higher — usually estimated to be around 900,000 a year.
Looking at the data more historically,the number of babies killed in abortions has dropped 21.8% since 2009 and the abortion rate has declined 24.2 percent, making it clear that lifesaving efforts such as pregnancy centers across the nation have helped and supported more women as they give birth instead of having abortions. The abortion rate has declined over 50% since 1980.

A pro-abortion Catholic President was almost inevitable given the fecklessness of most and downright betrayal from some, of the Catholic Bishops (with the exception of a few Bishops). On this issue and many others - think defrocked "Cardinal" McCarrick.

Sorry it's not difficult or complex. Quite straightforward really.
“When politicians who profess the Catholic faith support [abortion], there are additional problems,” the archbishop said. “Among other things, it creates confusion among the faithful about what the Catholic Church actually teaches on these questions.”
Gomez said the USCCB plans to form a working group, led by Detroit Archbishop Allen Vigneron, to explore the problem in more depth.
"Additional problems ... A working group... to explore the problem in more depth"? They have had 45 years to confront pro-abortion Catholic politicians. Disgraceful.
Biden’s pro-abortion agenda includes advocating for abortions without limits and forcing taxpayers to fund them. He also opposes religious freedom measures that protect Catholic charities like the Little Sisters of the Poor, which serves the poor and elderly.
Biden said he plans to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law and appoint U.S. Supreme Court justices who will support abortion on demand. He also said he would fight to end the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions – which could lead to 60,000 more unborn babies’ deaths to abortion each year.
In April, Biden went so far as to call the killing of unborn babies an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic. His health care plan would expand abortions as well by forcing insurance companies to cover abortions as “essential” health care under Obamacare.
He also promised to undo all of Trump’s progress for life, including restoring funding to the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood.
On religious freedom, Biden’s position also is deeply troubling. Biden has endorsed anti-religious freedom policies that would force nuns, religious charities and hospitals to violate their deeply-held beliefs by funding the killing of unborn babies in abortions and potentially even by helping to facilitate their deaths.
So they need a working group to explore the problem. Double disgraceful.

Believe it or not, I am grateful I saw that stark truth, exposing abortion for what it really is, instead of living in the darkness and lies. Like those of countless other women, my abortion was coerced, another truth so often denied or ignored by those claiming abortion is a good. The fallacy of “free choice” is easier to sell than the reality of the betrayal of boyfriends, parents, spouses, or other outside pressures.

Dianne Feinstein during Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings speak of women she knew in the 1950s who suffered and even died from illegal abortion, I could not help but wonder whether Feinstein has ever spoken to the countless women who suffer now, or the families of those who have died from the “safe, legal abortion” she has worked so hard to ensure. Probably not. She can speak about how “distressing” it was for her not to get a straight answer from Barrett regarding whether the judge would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, but it appears Feinstein has no idea of the real distress millions of women experience every day due to a past abortion.
As we digress down this slippery slope we were warned about decades ago, “safe, legal, and rare” has become “safe, legal, and free,” as portrayed in the “Thank God for Abortion Anthem” video making its rounds on the internet. At least those proponents are honest. With more than 60 million abortions since Roe, rare it is not.
Joe Biden speaks of this election as a fight for the “soul of our nation,” and so it is. It is difficult, however, to listen to Biden speak as if he is on some high moral ground when, in fact, he advocates for abortion throughout the entirety of a pregnancy. This disregard for innocent human life goes beyond the soul of our nation. It is a fight for personal souls.
This self-proclaimed “devout” Catholic sadly has the support of some bishops, who tell their flocks they can vote for him “in good conscience.” Anyone who takes the time to contemplate the more than 60 million deaths of innocent babies, however, knows this cannot come from a good conscience, but from an absence of one.

The blockade rescue, on Thursday October 22nd in Washington DC, means the seven arrested could be charged under the federal FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) law which makes it a federal crime to block access. Of course this is really a political crime since other actions blocking a clinic - such as a union protest against wages or work conditions - are NOT violations under FACE.

At 9:10 am EST this morning, two veteran pro-lifers, Fr. Fidelis Moscinski, CFR and Joan Andrews Bell, entered the Planned Parenthood in Shrewsbury, NJ.
Once inside, they gently approached mothers seated in the waiting room and offered them red roses as a symbol of life. Attached to each rose was a card that stated on one side “You were made to love and to be loved...your goodness is greater than the difficulties of your situation. Circumstances in life change. A new life, however tiny, brings the promise of unrepeatable joy.”

40 Days for Life vigils are just beginning--and a baby has already been saved from abortion!
Maria in Toronto reports that she has been broadcasting 40 Days for Life videos over her church's live stream channel. An expectant mom saw one of the videos and contacted Maria for help.
"[She] wanted to keep her child...but her partner did not agree," Maria said. "She reached out for us to pray for this situation."
Those prayers were quickly answered. When the expectant mother thought she was arriving at the abortion facility...it turns out she had mistakenly booked a visit with a pro-life doctor!
The woman chose life and has been referred to a pro-life maternity home where she'll be safe from those pressuring her to abort. She is considering adoption.
Vigil participants in White Plains were thrilled to unite again after the pandemic disrupted the spring vigil.
"It was great to gather together as a 40 Days for Life community after a long hiatus," wrote Gerald, the longtime leader.
Kickoff event attendees were treated to a number of compelling speakers, including a pastor who made a powerful admission to attendees that at one point he was not pro-life--until the Gospel of John changed his heart.

These are her past opening remarks in the confirmation process when she was put forward to be on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2017. People with good memories who follow this stuff will recall that Senators Feinstein and Durbin took some issue with her religious faith. She was eventually confirmed for the Court by a 55-43 Senate vote. The other woman in the running is the Cuban-American, Barbara Lagoa. Also a Catholic who takes her faith seriously.

According to AL.com, Torres, who had been serving as medical director of West Alabama Women's Center in Tuscaloosa on a temporary license, was denied certification for lying on her application.
"The Board denied an application for a certificate of qualification on Aug. 19, and on Aug. 27 temporarily suspended her license to practice medicine 'until a hearing is held on the allegations against her,'" the report stated. "The letter of notice from the Board of Medical Examiners says that Torres, in her application, gave false answers to several questions including whether her staff privileges had ever been revoked or suspended at any hospital or health care facility."
The letter of notice also stated that Torres made "public statements related to the practice of medicine which violate the high standards of honesty, diligence, prudence, and ethical integrity demanded from physicians licensed to practice in Alabama."
Dr. Leah Torres, an Alabama abortion doctor famous for making inflammatory statements on social media, had her medical license suspended by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners late last month.

"I won't apologize for performing medicine," added Torres. "I'm also a 'uterus ripper outer,' if that's how you'd like to describe hysterectomy."
In response to the suspension, a spokeswoman for the West Alabama Women's Center, said the board's decision was "based on misunderstandings."

VOTING WITH A CATHOLIC CONSCIENCE
The Church equips its members to address political questions by helping them develop well-formed consciences. "Conscience" is a practical judgment that we make about the quality of a moral act, based on our knowledge and reason, aided by grace (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 177778). Our conscience is not something that allows us to justify doing whatever we feel like doing. Instead, it is our moral compass for judging right from wrong.
Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship is a document produced by the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops that guides the faithful on how to make responsible voting choices.

How do I start forming my conscience?
Start by being open to the truth and desiring to do what is right. Follow the proper guides: Sacred Scripture, the authoritative teachings of the Church, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the wise counsel of others. The U.S. Bishops have also published a useful article on conscience formation.
How should I evaluate candidates?
Does the candidate promote human life and dignity? Is he/she committed to justice and peace? Does the candidate possess integrity? What is his/her agenda? How are the candidate's policies in light of Catholic social teaching?
Are there any "non-negotiable" issues on which we cannot compromise?
Catholics must always oppose grave and intrinsic evils such as abortion, euthanasia, terrorism, torture, etc. The right to life and the dignity of the human person must always take priority.
"Any politics of human dignity must seriously address issues of racism, poverty, hunger, employment, education, housing, and health care... But being 'right' in such matters can never excuse a wrong choice regarding direct attacks on innocent human life" (U.S. Bishops, Living the Gospel of Life).
"The inalienable right to life of every innocent human person outweighs other concerns where Catholics may use prudential judgment, such as how best to meet the needs of the poor or to increase access to health care for all" (New York State Bishops).
Can I ever vote for a pro-abortion candidate?
In the vast majority of cases, Catholics cannot vote for a pro-abortion candidate in good conscience. Voting in this way would only be permissible "for truly grave moral reasons, not to advance narrow interests or partisan preferences or to ignore a fundamental moral evil" (Faithful Citizenship 35). What happens if all the candidates are pro-abortion?
In this unfortunate circumstance, Catholics can vote for the candidate who is less likely to push an evil agenda, more likely to pursue other good goals, and more likely limit damage. Catholics can also choose not for vote or they can write in a better candidate (Faithful Citizenship 36).
PRAY for the legal protection of every human person, born and unborn, and for God's assistance in discernment to choose the best candidates for local, state and national positions.

Sr. Deirdre “Dede” Byrne, POSC. A woman with an amazing resume. She is scheduled for Day three, Wednesday the 26th. This is in contrast to the "Nun on the Bus" Sister Simone Campbell, who spoke at the Democrat Convention and in the past supported abortion. She very recently hedged her position. "I’m a lawyer. I would have to study it more intensely than I have,” she said in a recent interview.

Joan (needs no introduction) had surgery several weeks ago and is "on the road to recovery."
Dan Brusstar in the 90's was co-head of BORN (Bi-state Operation Rescue Network) - he and his family have made huge sacrifices over the years for the prolife cause. Dan has had serious health issues for several years with multiple surgeries.

In Washington DC, outside - but on public sidewalk - of Planned Parenthood. Attached are two videos and the statement from the email we received this morning from Students for Life of America (SFLA). If you read the textofr the email, you'll see that the students - young man and a woman - had a permit and "followed all the rules" but were arrested anyway.
And a second video with the students explaining what they were doing before they started chalking.
Here's the statement from SFLA -
Two of our pro-life students were ARRESTED in Washington, D.C. early this morning.
Their crime?
Writing “BLACK PREBORN LIVES MATTER” in chalk on a public sidewalk in front of the Planned Parenthood abortion facility.
As you likely know, the mayor of Washington, D.C. recently ordered BLACK LIVES MATTER be painted on a public street near the White House. Protesters then added the message “DEFUND THE POLICE” next to the city-sanctioned mural.
After talking with our lawyers, we know that their actions opened up city streets for painting political messages and that they must give equal access to groups like Students for Life.
So we sent a letter (that thousands of our supporters like you signed) to the mayor insisting she allow us to paint our life-affirming message on the streets of Washington, D.C. too.
We worked with the police. We purchased the type of paint, temporary paint, they told us to get. We had our face masks on. And we even got a permit to be in front of the Planned Parenthood.
We followed all the rules.
But, when we showed up this morning, the police were waiting for us with six police cars. They told us if we painted the streets they would arrest us. So, as a backup, we decided to begin chalking our pro-life message on the public sidewalk in front of the Planned Parenthood like we do every Saturday.
They arrested our students anyway.
I’ve been on the phone with our lawyers all morning long, so forgive me for being brief.

This is the more or less weekly column on the NYT op ed pages by Ross Douthat, who is one of the few religious believers who write opinion columns in the Times (he is a Catholic convert). If you hit the link you should be able to access the entire superb column.
This is an interesting shift from just a year ago, when Clarence Thomas faced a wave of media scorn when he took note of Sanger’s eugenic sympathies. But Thomas was citing Sanger’s writings to suggest that abortion in America today reflects a kind of structural racism — an inherited tendency, which persists even without racist intent, for pro-abortion policies to reduce minority births more than white births. Whereas the removal of Sanger’s name, presumably, was intended to drive home the opposite point — to establish a clear separation between past and present, between racism then and abortion rights today.
But the difficulty is that according to current thinking on how structural racism lingers and what anti-racism requires, Thomas still seems to have a reasonable case.

Then when abortion was legalized in the United States, with Planned Parenthood’s strong support, its initial effect was a sharp decline in minority births. According to the Wellesley economist Phillip Levine, white births dipped only slightly after legalization, while the nonwhite birthrate dropped by 15 percent. Fifty years later, the abortion rate is five times higher for African-Americans than for whites.
So in this story, a worldview with racist antecedents wins a major policy victory that immediately has a disproportionate effect on minority birthrates. And then there is the further twist that over the longer run, Roe v. Wade and the sexual revolution probably changed family structure as well, as George Akerlof and (future Fed chair) Janet Yellen argued in a 1996 paper, by creating a wider space for men to expect sex without commitment and to behave irresponsibly toward pregnant woman: “By making the birth of the child the physical choice of the mother,” they wrote, “the sexual revolution has made marriage and child support a social choice of the father.”
Like the abortion rate itself, this trend — the long rise of fatherlessness — has been steeper in poor and vulnerable communities. So it, too, has helped to sustain racial inequality, by reserving to the whiter upper classes the socioeconomic advantages that two-parent families enjoy.
Keep following this logic, and you might conclude that if Planned Parenthood really took anti-racism seriously it would repent of its support for abortion, and devote itself exclusively to helping support African-American pregnancies instead.
Are you convinced? I expect not. Maybe you think the decline of the two-parent family is strictly about de-industrialization. Maybe you believe the benefits of abortion access for minority women outweigh whatever power lower birthrates cost the African-American community writ large.
Maybe you think the nuclear family was itself a form of white or Western oppression, and any anti-racism that requires its revival isn’t worthy of the name. (This appears to be the position of the official Black Lives Matters organization.) Or maybe you simply think abortion is an absolute human right, which must be defended even if, as policy, it appears to have a disparate racial impact.

Followed rigorously to their conclusions, they may lead to surprising or inconvenient ideological conclusions, to intersectional dilemmas no doctrine can resolve, or just to a deep uncertainty about the best path to racial redress.
Or they might even lead to a creeping sense that Clarence Thomas has a point: that at the very moment that America finally granted African-Americans full citizenship, it also embarked on a separate social revolution, whose most ruthless feature — the belief that equality and liberty require removing protections from unborn human life — left a specific stamp on the African-American experience, just as the most ruthless features of our history always do.

The Supreme Court ruled in 2012 that religious schools enjoyed a “ministerial exception” that protected them from lawsuits brought by teachers whom the school said were ministers. Now it has strengthened that decision by holding that lawsuits alleging employment discrimination—teachers at two Catholic schools claimed they were terminated for discriminatory reasons (age and disability)—are without merit.
“The religious education and formation of students is the very reason for the existence of most private religious schools,” wrote Justice Samuel Alito for the majority, “and therefore the selection and supervision of the teachers upon whom the schools rely to do this work lie at the core of their mission.”
The other case involved the right of the Trump administration to carve an exception for those with sincerely held moral or religious objections from complying with the Obamacare mandate that abortion-inducing drugs and contraception must be provided in all healthcare plans. The Trump administration and the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Catholic nonprofit entity, appealed to the high court to reverse an appeals court decision that denied the exemption.
Justice Clarence Thomas, who authored the court’s ruling, said the Trump administration “had the authority to provide exemptions from the regulatory contraceptive requirements for employees with religious and conscientious objections.”
These two victories, alongside the Supreme Court’s decision last week allowing Catholic schools to benefit from tuition-tax credit scholarship programs, will do much to safeguard the religious rights of Catholic institutions, as well as those of other religious organizations.
Contrary to the foes of religious liberty—and there are many seated in elite institutions—it is not religious entities that have been encroaching on the state; rather, it is the state that has been encroaching on religion.
It is high time that state operatives with an animus against religion, especially Catholicism, were put in their place. It can’t happen too often given their dogmatic zeal to destroy the First Amendment provisions guaranteeing religious liberty.
