ALEXANDRIA VA - This morning activists from Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising entered 5999 Stevenson Ave Medical Complex where the largest abortionist provider in Northern Virginia, Alexandria Women's Health Clinic, is located.
There they entered the abortion facility’s lobby as well as stationed themselves around the medical complex for the eventual goal of shutting down Alexandria Women's Health Clinic for the day. This is an act of non violent direct action which directly disrupts the cycle of abortion violence.
Founder and Executive Director of PAAU, Terrisa Bukovinac explains, “Social justice can only be achieved when people from every corner of society are willing to put their bodies in-between those being oppressed and their oppressors. Late capitalism fuels the commodification and killing of unborn children along with their parents who are exploited and coerced into abortion for profit.”
Inside the building, they offer help to abortion-minded families, counsel them to change their minds about aborting their babies, and information on local resource centers. Activists stationed around the building pass out flyers encouraging businesses to put pressure on building management that “Abortion is Bad Business” Typically in these situations when asked to leave the facility by law enforcement, each activist offers an act of non-violent passive defense of the unborn children about to die. This usually results in the activists’ arrests and possible incarceration.
Activist and organizer Lauren Handy shared, “Abortion does not disappear societal problems, they disappear human beings and at Alexandria Women's Health Clinic that’s an average 7000 preborn children killed each year. We must take bold and decisive action if prolifers want to even begin to stem the tide against such violence.”
Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising, launching October 1st of this year, works to mobilize grassroots pro-life activists for direct action, to dismantle the pervasive and exploitive influence of the abortion industrial complex, and to uphold the progressive values of equality, nonviolence, and non-discrimination for the most marginalized among us: the unborn victims killed by abortion violence.
“The Abortion Industrial Complex professes their care for marginalized communities, while at the same time capitalizing from the bias society holds against them through aborting these groups for profit. Their industry is rooted in violence against already vulnerable people, only when members of these communities, like those from PAAU, stand up to end this violence will it end.” Kristin Turner, Communications Director for PAAU.

Great work, PAAU! (Brings back memories of Operation Recue in the late '80's and early '90's)
