Braving the Corona Virus, 14 pro-lifers, all donning personal protection equipment, participated in three Red Rose Rescues. Nine of the twelve were arrested. On Wednesday, May 13th an RRR took place at the Heritage Women’s Center abortion clinic operated by abortionist Thomas Gordon in Grand Rapids, MI.
While 30 pro-lifers from various pro-life groups, including Sidewalk Advocates for Life, and faithful sidewalk counselor Leisa Snow assembled outside to pray and counsel women scheduled for abortion, six Red Rose Rescuers entered the abortion center parking lot to talk to the mothers and anyone else accompanying them. The clinic’s large parking lot makes one-on-one engagement with women scheduled for abortions nearly impossible. The goal of the rescuers was to enter the lot so that they could have personal engagement with the women, to provide practical help, give them information on the humanity of their unborn children and offer them red roses as a sign of life, peace, love and hope. The rescuers spaced out their attempts to talk to the mothers, taking turns entering the parking lot.
Eventually two Grand Rapids police officers arrived in two police vehicles. Rescuers Monica Migliorino Miller, Robert Kolavy and Matthew Connolly were ushered into the police vans and issued citations for trespassing. Miller told the officer: “We can’t just leave the parking lot as long as women were coming to kill their babies. We have to be here to offer real help to the moms. We have to be on the parking lot to talk to them in a meaningful way. Lives are at stake.” The other officer stated: “Lady, don’t you know there are homicides in Grand Rapids we have to respond to—and you are taking upon our precious time.” to which Miller responded: “Exactly! There are homicides going on right here! And no one is protecting these innocent unborn children.”
Miller and Kolavy were issued citations for trespassing and immediately released with a warning not to “trespass” on clinic property again. Mysteriously Matthew Connolly was merely asked a few questions while in police custody and released without being charged!

Later, three other rescuers were also issued citations, including 21 year-old Caroline Davis who was arrested even though at the time of her arrest she was standing on the public sidewalk near the driveway of the clinic as she tried to appeal to the consciences of the police officers in the process of arresting rescuer Heather Idoni.
Toward the end of the RRR a young couple entered the driveway and a Sidewalk Advocate for Life counselor approached the boyfriend who was driving the car. She was able to talk to him and gave him pamphlets and urged them to receive an ultra sound at a local pregnancy help center. The couple however drove into the parking lot but sat in the car talking for at least 20 minutes. Then the girl came out and entered the clinic, at which point I was able to say a few words to her not to abort her baby. Five minutes later she exited the clinic and went back to the car.
At this point your CPLS director decided to try and reach the couple. I walked around the block and stood near to the back of the parking lot from the adjoining property. The girlfriend looked at me as I held out a rose to her. Suddenly the boyfriend started the car and they pulled out of the lot! We can say with confidence that this was at least a woman turned away from abortion and can only hope and pray she will not come back and will embrace the life of her baby!

Two Priests Arrested in Washington, D.C. Red Rose Rescues
May 14th. Fr. Fidelis Moscinski of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and Father Stephen Imbarrato, two priests dedicated to the mission of the Red Rose Rescue were among those who participated in two RRRs in Washington D.C. Fr. Fidelis and Will Goodman were arrested at the Capital Women’s Center. Fr. Fidelis entered the clinic while Will Goodman accompanied by rescuer Joan McGhee remained in the hallway outside where women scheduled for abortions were lined up waiting to be called into the clinic. Goodman and McGhee spoke to several of the women, some of whom took his pamphlets. Goodman was able to distribute all the roses to the women in the hallway. Joan McGhee left the hallway to talk to mothers who were entering the building and was not arrested.
One African American woman was seen by sidewalk counselors exiting the building holding the red rose and pro-life pamphlets.
Police eventually arrived and placed Fr. Fidelis and Will Goodman under arrest and charged them with unlawful entry. One officer who identified himself as a member of the Knights of Columbus discreetly refused to participate in the arrests saying: “I just cannot arrest a priest.”
The second D.C. RRR occurred at the Washington Surgi-Center abortion clinic owned and operated by abortionist Cesare Santangelo. Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, Linda Mueller entered the hallway outside of the clinic and talked to women as they came for their abortion appointments and offered them red roses. Jonathan Darnell and John Paul Gies stationed themselves in the lobby below and were able to talk with and give roses to a few women entering the building for their abortion appointments. When police arrived, Fr. Imbarrato and Linda Mueller were placed under arrest. Gies and Darnell exited the building. They hoped to re-entered and continue to conduct the rescue but police presence made it impossible for them to regain access to the building. At this point they made a decision to go to the Capital Women’s Center hoping they could participate in the rescue there.
Fr. Fidelis and Will Goodman were taken into custody pro-lifers Darnell and Gies entered the building. Gies stationed himself in the building’s lobby to talk to any women who might still be arriving for their abortions while Darnell entered the abortion facility. By then all of the women had been taken into the back portion of the clinic. Darnell made efforts to speak to them—hoping that they might still be able to hear his plea not to abort and offer them help. He was in the clinic for well over an hour and his time is recorded here https://www.facebook.com/DCAreaAntiAbortionAdvocacy/ including his conversation with police officers debating legalized abortion, conscience and the moral law!
Police officers permitted Darnell and Gies to leave the building without being arrested. However, rescuer Matthew Connolly who had participated in the Grand Rapids RRR arrived at the Capital Women’s Center. He entered the building and while remaining in the lobby also counseled women coming for their abortion appointments. Not knowing he was connected to the rescue, police paid no attention to him and he was able to eventually simply leave without being arrested.
To this week’s 3 RRRs we may add the 4th RRR that took place April 30th in Baton Rouge, LA. William Goodman and Tony Puckett were arrested when they entered the abortion facility. See www.prolifesociety.net for story about the Baton Rouge RRR.
Right Now We Ask for Prayers-- Please pray first for mothers scheduled for abortions! Pray for the Rescuers as we now enter the second phase of the Red Rose Rescue—namely the witness to the unborn we give in Court.
Regarding this secular news story below—it is very fair BUT contains a serious error which thus far we have not been able to get the TV Station to correct, despite our efforts. No pro-lifers entered the abortion center and certainly thus—no one yelled at clinic personnel -- otherwise it is a good story! But notice sidebar ad for Planned Parenthood!!!
