Bus Shelter Ads By Maryl Turchi
We will never know the full effect of the ads that were posted on bus shelters in Westchester County. The three ads, which ran for 20 months, were in busy locations with high pedestrian and auto traffic. We selected 2 spots in White Plains near abortion mills: Planned Parenthood on Rt.119 and a facility on Mamaroneck Avenue plus one ad was strategically placed near Planned Parenthood in downtown Yonkers.
These huge 4 ft x 6 ft colorful ads were the brainchild of pro-lifer, Frank Morganthaler. In 2017, he enthusiastically presented the idea at the Westchester Putnam Right to Life Spring breakfast. The response was huge and many donated to cover the cost of artwork and monthly rental. The last run of ads was paid for solely by Anne, a modest pro-lifer.
Frank is a board member of LIFE OPTIONS CENTER, a pregnancy center in Yonkers. He and I, as the director of LOC, met several times with a representative from SIGNAL OUTDOOR in Purchase, NY. We designed an attractive ad, showing smiling women of different races above a bright pink banner saying
“Pregnant? Call for Help” in English and Spanish.
The LIFE OPTION’s phone number was shown at the bottom in large print. Our cell is answered 24/7.
This direct, simple message prompted many to call; some looking for help and other inquiries from pro-lifers asking what help we gave so they could refer possibly pregnant women. One conservative gentleman, active in his church, was thrilled to hear that our help was so readily available.
The presence of these ads was encouraging to pro-lifers who picketed the area near the abortion providers. Even if a call did not result, those seeing the message got the idea implanted that there was help available; that being pregnant did not have to lead to an abortion.
The help offered was free pregnancy tests, emotional and material support such as maternity clothing, baby clothes, pampers, strollers and car seats—all for free. Referrals for housing and free medical support were also shared.
Many thanks to Frank Morganthaler and those who donated to this effort. “Well done, good and faithful servants.”
Thank God. Keep it goinģ!

I am happy to hear the Bus Shelter Ads were a successful way to connect with those who benefited by the message. If additional exposure is planned please do not hesitate to contact me to help make that happen.
