Their archbishop has called them forward to descend on the abortion center—to put boots on the ground with their rosaries in hand. “With many people dying for their faith in parts of the world, I encourage Catholics to be courageous in witnessing for the sacredness of human life,” said Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann. “Please participate in this prayerful, peaceful, persistent, and patient public witness for life.” The Catholic Leaven reiterated the archbishop’s call to action in a March 16 article announcing the campaign to stop Planned Parenthood.

Good news on the NY Cuomo abortion expansion bill.

This is from Carol Crossed, a member of Democrats for Life of NY. Not every NY Assembly Democrat supports the culture of death.

You may have heard that our NYS Assembly decided to break up the Governor’s “Women’s Equality Act” and vote on the individual pieces. Great news – great victory! While the stand-alone abortion bill got an Assembly vote yesterday, it will not receive a Senate vote.

As expected, the stand-alone late-term abortion expansion bill did passin the Assembly. The vote was 95 to 51.

The exciting news is that nine Democrats voted against the abortion expansion  bill: Colton, Crespo, Gjonaj, Goldfeder, Hikind, Kearns, Miller, Schimminger and Simanowitz. (There would have been 10 with Michael Cusick, but he was excused as he was having emergency surgery.)

Ten pro-life voting Democrats is still a pretty high number in an environment that is highly politically polarized.

Let’s send a letter of congratulations to these 9 pro-life Assembly members plus Michael Cusick.

The Gospel of Life (Evangelium Vitae)

1. THE GOSPEL OF LIFE is at the heart of Jesus' message. Lovingly received day after day by the Church, it is to be preached with dauntless fidelity as "good news" to the people of every age and culture.

The Church knows that this Gospel of life, which she has received from her Lord,¹ has a profound and persuasive echo in the heart of every person—believer and non-believer alike—because it marvellously fulfils all the heart's expectations while infinitely surpassing them. Even in the midst of difficulties and uncertainties, every person sincerely open to truth and goodness can, by the light of reason and the hidden action of grace, come to recognize in the natural law written in the heart (cf. Rom 2:14-15) the sacred value of human life from its very beginning until its end, and can affirm the right of every human being to have this primary good respected to the highest degree. Upon the recognition of this right, every human community and the political community itself are founded.

18% of deaths in Belgium: assisted suicide/euthansia

A study out of Flanders, published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that 18% of patients deaths come either from lethal injection/assisted suicide or from being put into a deep coma and left to die.

So how many of those people "put into a deep coma and left to die" were actually euthanized? We can't tell.

“Recent Trends in Euthanasia and Other End-of-Life Practices in Belgium,” reports that 6.3% of Flanders’ deaths involved “physician-assisted death.” This term was defined as lethal injection at the request of the patient (“euthanasia”), assisted suicide, and “death without explicit request.”

 

But there is more: A full 12% die from “full continuous deep sedation until death.” Palliative sedation is not the same thing,meaning most of this involves “terminal sedation,” putting in a coma and denied food and fluids until death, a form of beneath-the-surface euthanasia.(For more details on this issue, hit this link.)

NY Times endorses assisted suicide/euthanasia

No surprise. They backed it when "Dr." Kevorkian was doing his thing, but then kind of steered away from it after initial enthusiasm. Kevorkian was just a little too tacky for their taste.

The editorial contains the usual verbal engineering we've come to expect from "progressive" policies. the editorial is 11 paragraphs long.

The right-to-die movement has strong opponents, including the Catholic Church, which opposes any form of suicide. Meanwhile, some medical professionals argue that the practice is at odds with their mission as healers and worry that it could be abused. Unfortunately, many Americans associate the issue with Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a notorious advocate of assisted suicide who was convicted in 1999 of murder and who aided dozens of patients, many of whom were not terminally ill, in ending their lives.
