It was with great excitement that we dropped off a donation of clothes and money from this year's Summerfest in Croton-on-Hudson and Holy Name of Mary Parish. Our congratulations to Birthright of Peekskill, the steadfast Tina McDermott, and all those whose prayers, hard work and moving muscles and financial donations helped keep Birthright open in our area for pregnant women in need. The Franciscan Sisters and the Church of the Assumption were both a lifeline until the appropriate space could be found. And the space at 826 South Street in Peekskill is perfect!!!
According to Tina they have sufficient numbers of volunteers at the moment, but donations of clothing (no toys) and/or money are being accepted. Tina hopes that different groups/parishes/organizations might consider sponsoring Birthright for one month a year with a donation of $1,500. If we can get just 12 groups to commit to this, she says, rent can be paid and women and their families can be served in countless other ways.
Here are some pictures of the "made-in-heaven" office space in Peekskill that Tina and staff have been busily getting up and running.
