Feminism: A Woman’s Heart Revealed
Women’s Equality Day Reformed holds its 13th annual commemoration of women’s suffrage on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 12 Noon at the Westchester County Office Building, 148 Martine Avenue at Court Street, 8th floor in White Plains, New York.
According to Committee spokesperson Regina Riely, “The day remembers the early suffragettes and celebrates with and for women of all voting persuasions. The annual ceremony that had taken place in the County for 28 years has been reformed to now honor a new group of Westchester women formerly denied recognition and whose views, like their feminist foremothers, champion a shared voice in government and the essence of womanhood: protection of the continuity of life.”
The day’s theme is Feminism: A Woman’s Heart Revealed
The 94th anniversary of the 19th Amendment is officially August 26. It was 1920 when Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and other feminine stalwarts finally achieved their historic garnering of the vote. By relying on women’s unique gifts, their mutual respect, and unparalleled united efforts, these icons set a high standard for women to emulate. The day will recall their efforts towards social and political justice for themselves and others. Speakers will challenge today’s women to reflect on the true feminist legacy, one that is routinely distorted or totally ignored. Authentic feminism promotes a dynamic path for a woman, seeking only to enrich her life, her children’s lives, and her legacy.
The wonderful Eileen Slattery, teacher, mother and pro-life activist,is our 2014 Woman of the Year and recipient of the Mott-Stanton-Anthony Award.
There is limited capacity and a security check with photo ID at the County building. Seek long-term (3-hour) parking to avoid having to leave the ceremony. For additional details, call Regina at 914.319.7491 or Judith at 914.329.5163; or email the WEDR Committee at [email protected].
