Check out NRO's piece by Kathryn Jean Lopez with incisive quotes by Carol Crossed of The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum. Andrew Cuomo's History Problem
On June 5 Governor Cuomo unveiled his Women's Equality Act. To the surprise of no one, Andrew had dug in his heels and presented the powerful New York abortion lobby with the long-awaited 10-point bill they demanded. The controversial 10th point on abortion rights remained unaltered by the protests of conservative and pro-life voices. Can the same be said of Andrew's relationship with Cardinal Dolan and his status as a Catholic? Cardinal Dolan and the Bishops of New York State were "profoundly distressed" over the final wording, as well they should be. If passed this Act could effectively shut down Catholic institutions and hospitals that refuse to perform late-term abortions, and a Church that objects in conscience to other outrageous expansions of abortion's culture of death.
The "Catholic" Governor's push for expanding abortion in New York State is nothing if not reminescent of his father Mario's political coups and moral folly - then-Governor Mario Cuomo's infamous speech at Notre Dame in September, 1984 defined what it means to be a "pro-choice Catholic" Democrat. A Catholic "personally opposed" to abortion but obligated to actively promote - and now expand - abortion in New York State.
Cuomo the younger finally released his long-under-wraps women's agenda on abortion. After a protracted, very political delay, his Women's Equality Act's 10th point reiterated the Reproductive Health Act's bold expansion of abortion into the third trimester, among other gems lacking in common sense or sensitivity to the unborn and women. For example, did you know that women have come so far that they can now undergo abortions without the presence of a medical doctor? Goody. It's the back alley in prime time, pretending to care about the health or life of women in crisis pregnancies. Parental rights? Don't ask.
This Act also opens the door to more late term abortions and the spectre of infanticide, ala Dr. Kermit Gosnell's "snipping" of the spinal cord of infants born alive during similar late term abortions. Make no mistake, #10 seeks to usher in a broader acceptance of infanticide. The abortion industry demands more profits and it will happily feast on the flesh of the full-term, innocent unborn to get them. America, if this is what is considered advancement for women, shudder. The equality of life that our Constitution so honorably promised is gone and the dignity of womanhood lost. The inmates are running the asylum.
