Biggest-Ever Pro-Life March Through Amsterdam
The Dutch annual March for Life took place before Christmas. Its organisers were Cry for Life and Christians for Truth. It attracted some 700 participants, the most since the Marches began seventeen years ago. The March for Life takes place each year to mark the date (December 18, 1980) when the Dutch Parliament approved abortion. Abortionists may kill babies up to the 24th week of pregnancy.
The 2009 March began at the famous Dam Square in the heart of Amsterdam and ended at the Keizersgracht Church. Demonstrators carried replicas of a ten-week old unborn baby, ten weeks being about the age when most babies are aborted. Marchers also carried many protest signs calling for the end of legalised abortion.
The Lord Mayor of Amsterdam, Mr J H Cohen, acknowledged the right of Cry for Life to stand up for the unborn babies in a public rally.
This year’s March began with a welcome and introductions by Dr Dorenbos. There were prayers, too, after which CFT (Christians for Truth) President Jan de Bruin told listeners how he was the seventh child in his family, expected in very difficult circumstances during WWII under Nazi occupation. His mother considered aborting him, had it then been legal. But it wasn’t, and he was saved!
So far 600,000 Dutch babies have been sacrificed simply for convenience on the pro-abortion altars of self-indulgence since 1980. The Netherlands lost 30,000 lives lost through abortions during 2009 alone. The leaders of the 2009 March for Life believe that this year’s was the best march ever.
New people have come forward to join the pro-life movement, including many young people who’ll be the leaders of tomorrow. The current leaders believe we’ve turned a corner, and that these positive signs show God is working mightily in the pro-life movement in Holland. schreeuwomleven.nl. December.
