UPDATE: No surprise, but Nita Lowey and John Hall both voted against the Stupak amendment
This vital amendment, which puts in specific wording barring federal funding for abortion in the general healthcare bill, passed, 240-194. 64 Democrats joined 176 Republicans to vote for the Bill. 194 Democrats voted against the bill and one Republican voted "present".
The healthcare Bill itself then passed by 220-215.

In the run-up to a final vote, conservatives from the two political parties joined forces to impose tough new restrictions on abortion coverage in insurance policies to be sold to many individuals and small groups. They prevailed on a roll call of 240-194.
Ironically, that only solidified support for the legislation, clearing the way for conservative Democrats to vote for it.
219 Democrats and one Republican voted for the Bill, 39 Democrats and 176 republicans voted against it.
By no means is this the end of the story. The Senate now must take up a Bill. Then the two bills go to "reconciliation" to produce one bill that a majority from both chambers need to pass. Key Senators have recently said they don't expect a Senate Bill until 2010.
will it languish in the senate???
