Our initial posting about the votes is here LifeNet: Senate Finance Committee rejects abortion ban and conscience protection in healthcare reform bill
John Kerry, Maria Cantwell, and Robert Menendez (New Jersey). They also voted against the amendment specifically banning federal funding of abortion in any healthcare reform.
The Catholic Key Blog: Catholic Senators are Decisive Factor in Denying Conscience Protection
Bottom line: Both conscience protection and a ban of federal funding would have passed but for the Catholic Senators.
*************
None of the Senators who voted for both amendments are Catholic. The margin was three votes – the same number of Catholic members of the committee who voted against both amendments – proving once again that on balance, it would be better for the unborn and for the interests of the Catholic Church if Catholics were barred from public office.
Thank goodness I am retired after practicing nursing for 27 years. Thanks to those three senators, I would be placed in the most uncomfortable position of having to resign my position or go against my conscience and God's law to aid in the horrendous act of abortion. Rest assusred, there will be many who will call it quits rather than commit this most unforgivable of sins. The statistics already show a shortage, so look out America.
