This update from the Director of Advocates for Life:
Dear Friend of Life:Since my last e-mail on our activity outside the Yonkers Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Getty Square, so much has been happening. Beginning last week the Advocates have had a presence outside the Yonkers facility FOUR days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays). Anywhere between 2 - 5 of us stand on the sidewalk with our unborn baby models, literature and signs (Last week, Marie and Mike Lewis led a group of 15 people in prayer outside this facility). I stand in awe of what God is accomplishing in Getty Square. Those who have been down there with us in past summers know that the people - mostly African-Americans and Latinos - have always been the most open to us. This year, the openness is even greater! I attribute this to those praying at the Cenacales of Life, Holy Hours, prayer meetings, private prayers of individuals, and our consecration to GOD, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of our Blessed Mother, at our vigil in June. Here are some highlights of our experiences within the last week and a half in front of PP:1. A woman in her 30's approached us about our materials and listened intently. She revealed that she had an abortion 2 years ago because the "doctor" told her the child she was carrying had the brain developing on the outside of his/her head. To this day she was upset because the doctor never even gave her a chance to refute his suggestion of an abortion. She collapsed and underwent the abortion. We were able to share with her about God's great desire to forgive and heal her and gave her LUMINA'S number, a post-abortion ministry headed by Theresa Bonapartis.2. A 20 year old woman, 6 months pregnant, stopped by to tell us she has not had pre-natal care yet. When asked why, she went on to tell us that upon her visit to the Montefiore clinic located in the Cross County Mall, the woman she spoke to berated her for being pregnant again (she has another child under a year old) and pressured her to abort. Thank God this young lady had the strength to walk out of that place. We gave her resources to connect her to a doctor.3. Last Wednesday, before holding vigil outside Planned Parenthood, 4 of us held a vigil outside My Sister's Place at 487 South Broadway in Yonkers. My Sister's Place supports women who are victims of domestic violence. The problem was that day they invited Planned Parenthood to give a workshop to teenagers about domestic violence. Our signs highlighted the irony of a so-called "anti-violent" group such as My Sister's Place inviting an organization which practices violence towards unborn children, their parents, and the community at large. While standing outside at that spot a woman approached us who related how a number of years ago she walked out of the abortion mill because of pro-lifers standing outside and she decided to keep the baby. Sadly, she ended up going back 2 days later for the abortion after getting death threats from her boyfriend against her and her family.4. On Monday of this week, a teenage couple, (she was 16 and he 14) were going to Planned Parenthood for a pregnancy test. They finally listened to us and bought a pregnancy test at the local pharmacy, took the test, and came back to tell us that it was negative. While they walked away extremely relieved we are concerned about their futures..she already had a past miscarriage. (THANK GOD FOR THE HEALTHY RESPECT PROGRAMS STARTED BY JOHN MARGAND).5. Yonkers Rising, the weekly paper, will feature an article (with pictures) of the Advocates and another great pro-life group from Yonkers, BOUND 4 LIFE. We are told it will be in the paper next week.PLEASE KEEP PRAYING AND FASTING FOR THE TRIUMPH OF THE CULTURE OF LIFE.Tony Felicissimo
