88 years old. Monsignor was never afraid to speak out.
Longtime Rockland Roman Catholic vicar dies | LoHud.com | The Journal News
"We look at monsignor as a gentle giant," said Eileen Peterson of Stony Point, who works with mothers and children and is an anti-abortion advocate in Rockland. "He was unsinkable. He valued the gift of life, whether it was the unborn, whether it was the elderly or whether it was a parent trying to raise their children."
And we also received this email today from Richard Bruno of Rockland County
To all who loved a faithful Pro-Life Giant, Msgr Harrington,On the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saturday, at 4:30 p.m. while a friendand religious sister were praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet, God took His faithful son Msgr. John Harrington from his home on earthHe moved on to everlasting life and his new eternal home after 14 months at the Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, New York. While there he received excellent care from the Dominican Sisters and Staff. How fitting that his soul should be taken aloft on our heavenly Queens feast day. He loved Mary the Queen of Heaven and Earth, and was constantly praying the rosary. To those of us in the pro-life movement he was an inspiration. He was instrumental in closing anabortion mill many years ago in Spring Valley across from where Planned Parenthood is presently located. While Vicar of the county he was arrested several times for peacefully trying to save unborn babies and dissuade mothers from a tragic decision. I believe that he will be welcomed by Bishop Vaughn and Bishop Lynch who were also imprisoned for the same crime "trying to save babies". Of course he was involved in countless other pro-life activities. As of today there was no funeral arrangements completed , He is in a funeral home in Pearl River and the funeral Mass will probably be in St. Margarets Church in Pearl River. However this is speculation on my part, and as soon as I find out I will inform you by e-mail.Please pray for Msgr and His family, I believe we have a friend upstairs who is doing what he can for us.For Life, Richard Bruno, your brother in Christ
