Msgr. Smith, professor at Dunwoodie seminary and highly regarded expert in medical ethics. Msgr. was a fine speaker with a dry sense of humor.
One of his favorite lines was "before social engineering comes verbal engineering."

He was one of the leading Catholic voices in the U.S. on medical ethics and was often quoted in the Catholic and secular media on the hot-button issues of the day, such as the Terri Schiavo life-support case, stem-cell research, all aspects of the abortion debate, reproductive technology and cloning.
"He was a top-notch moral theologian, highly regarded in the United States and in Rome," said Monsignor Joseph Giandurco, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, who served with Smith on the seminary faculty for 12 years. "He corresponded with Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who is now of course Pope Benedict XVI, on a number of sensitive issues over the years."
I really liked and respected Msgr. Smith. He spoke for the unborn, the respect and wonder of life as no other, to me. God bless him in Heaven.

Monsignor Smith was a guest speaker for the Rockland County Catholic Coalition a few years ago at St. Anthony's in Nanuet. His knowledge and spirituality left us amazed. May His Soul Rest In Peace and May He Intercede for Us to Build Such a Faithful Culture of Life inspite of President Obama, Pelosi and all other Catholics who our our modern day Judas'
