If you haven't yet heard of the (un) Healthy Teens Act, you will. Learn all you can about this legislation so, as parents, you can safeguard your children and watchdog your official school programs before they become entrenched in the schools' cirricula. Religious Education programs must also be pro-active about this pending legislation and the effect its possible passage will have on their own programs for students and parents.
The Healthy Teens Act would impose extreme sex-education for your child in Day Care, Nursery School and Kindergarten, and at every stage of your child's education.
You can read about this legislation and see how it is being promoted at www.getthefactsny.org. It refers to a "dire public health need in New York State" and the Assembly and Senate bills A.2856(new number) and S.5121(we're checking possible bill number change here), that address it. While the bill reads like an all-inclusive attempt to educate children and promote "health" and "self-esteem" and involve parents and "other adults", you must not accept these seemingly benign statements at face value. Why? Get the Facts NY is a project of Family Planning Advocates of New York State (FPA) and the Planned Parenthood Affiliates of New York State. We know their agenda includes promotion of early sexual experimentation, birth control and "morning after" pills, condoms, the Gardisil vaccine, and the inevitable abortions - without parental consent. One sentence about "the value of abstinence" should not lull you into thinking the aim of this program is your child's "health".
Enough said. Do your homework, parents! Go to School Board meetings and ask school officials questions about plans for these programs. The fact that someone is watching will have an effect. Question if they have given thought to the possibility of law suits directed at the School District. This will also give them pause.
