I've been a Catholic all my life but quit attending church 4 years ago because I refuse to work toward passing laws that imprison mothers and doctors for not following my religious beliefs. I keep wondering why the church isn't involved in preventing abortion instead of focusing on acting after the fact. I keep wondering why the church doesn't teach us to portray a message of love instead of the punitive and vengeful positions it does. A young mother with 3 young children at home and an out-of-work husband needs kindness and reassurance and, frankly, the assistance of the "village" if she unexpectedly becomes pregnant. Getting in her face and calling her a baby killer isn't the right message to change peoples' hearts.
