Doctors are to be forbidden from providing contraceptives and abortion referrals at a Roman Catholic hospital popular with celebrity mothers.

They will not be able to offer any service which conflicts with Catholic teaching on either the value of human life or on sexual ethics.

This includes referring on women who inquire at the hospital about contraception, the morning-after pill and abortion.

The code will also ban the amniocentesis procedure to detect Down's syndrome in unborn children and provision of IVF services.

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, the Archbishop of Westminster, ordered the code to be revised in 2005, after it was revealed that GPs had been prescribing the morning-after pill and referring patients for abortions.

A spokesman for the Restituta Group, which has been campaigning to retain the Catholic identity of the hospital, welcomed the code.

Nicholas Bellord, the group's secretary, said the previous code was "regularly ignored". He admitted critics believed the hospital would be 'unworkable' under the strict rules.

But he added: "Once in place [the code] will be a very marketable concept to those within and without the church who are attracted by a hospital where there is no deliberate destruction of human life from conception to natural death."

In 2005, the last year for which figures are available, Planned Parenthood clinics performed 264,943 abortions, LDI reports. That number was up 3.9% from the 2004 figure, despite a slight decline in the overall number of abortions nationwide.

In the same year, 2005, Planned Parenthood furnished over 1.2 million "emergency contraceptive" kits, including chemicals that regularly act as abortifacients. That number, too, marked an increase over the previous year's sales.

VATICAN CITY, APRIL 24, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Abortion and euthanasia are examples of "terrorism with a human face," and, together with suicide bombers, are the scourge of contemporary society, says a Vatican official.

Archbishop Angelo Amato, secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, made this statement on Monday during a talk on "The Problem of Evil: Philosophical and Theological Reflections."

His address formed part of the International Seminar for Catholic Civil Aviation Chaplains and Chaplaincy Members, taking place in Rome and sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Migrants and Travelers.

"Reading the daily papers -- or using Internet, TV or radio -- every day we see a perverse film about evil, which is 'filmed' in every part of the world with scenery and backdrops ever more cruel, as we see in the thousands of provocations of international terrorism," explained Archbishop Amato.

He continued: "Besides the abominable terrorism of suicide bombers, which is ever-present in the media, there is the so-called terrorism with a human face, which is also a daily occurrence and just as repugnant, which continues to be propagated by the media, manipulating traditional language with expressions that hide the tragic reality of the facts."

Word choice

As an example, the 68-year-old prelate mentioned that abortion is referred to as "the voluntary interruption of pregnancy" instead of "the killing of a defenseless human being." Euthanasia is defined merely as "death with dignity," he observed.

Archbishop Amato also mentioned the decisions of national legislatures that promote "laws contrary to the human being."

Evil today "is not only the action of single individuals or identifiable groups, but comes from dark centers, the laboratories of false opinions, from anonymous powers that hammer away at our minds with false messages, judging behavior in tune with the Gospels as ridiculous and out of date," he lamented.

"We cannot close the libraries of evil nor can we destroy its collection of videos that are reproduced like lethal viruses," noted Archbishop Amato. He explained that Christians can build themselves up "through the formation of a right conscience that searches for and loves the true and the good and avoids evil."

Abortion decision pending in Mexico - time to pray

This is from the weekly email from Fr. Tom Euteneur, head of HLI (Human Life International):

An Urgent Plea for Mexico

Dear friends and fellow pro-lifers,

I need your immediate prayers to stop the assault that is sweeping over Our Lady of Guadalupe's beloved land of faith. Mexico has been under a massive assault for decades by the rabid promoters of abortion and birth control and is now at the point of legalizing abortion "on demand." Despite the Catholic character of the culture and people, the death peddlers have unfortunately made significant progress in breaking down the prohibitions to contraception and sex education, and these are always the precursors to legalizing baby-killing.

Since its founding, HLI has sounded the alarm on birth control and to this day we continue to echo the same message: namely, birth control leads to abortion, it does not prevent abortion. Mexico's Planned Parenthood affiliate, Mexfam, has been working in Mexico for forty years to change the abortion laws. Their method of abortion advocacy follows the standard template that I described in a recent catechesis on contraception: contraception leads to promiscuity; promiscuity leads to out-of-wedlock pregnancies, and these lead to abortion.

But don't take my word for it. Take a look at http://www.mexfam.org.mx/. The opening window of Mexfam's website says graphically, "64% of sexually active women ages 15-19 have no access to contraception." Apparently it's their mission to give those deprived adolescents that access even though it's a violation of everything the Mexicans believe. They offer workshops for teens called, "Sex is for young people," "Erotic (and protected) life," and others just as graphic, all with the purpose of breaking down the social and moral protections to innocent life and family. In true radical feminist style, they use deceptive language and proclaim themselves the strong defenders of "reproductive rights" and all that goes with them.

The leftist government in Mexico City has now proposed legislation that would legalize abortion up to 12 weeks on demand. This is one of the largest cities in the world, and if the capital of this pivotal Catholic country permits open season on its precious babies then the domino effect will continue throughout Latin America. You may recall that I said this same thing last year when the Colombian Supreme Court permitted abortion. The dominoes are starting to fall and we need prayer!

The vote is expected to take place next Tuesday, April 24th. Please pray and fast for this intention! I will be doing that and offering every Mass for this intention until that day. Please join me by going to Mass and offering your Communions for this holy effort. Then take time to write an email to the legislators of Mexico City [see side bar item] and express your disgust with the prospect of legalizing abortion in Our Lady's land. You can write in English, and they will understand the phrase, "NO to abortion!" or cut and paste the equivalent in Spanish "¡Diga NO al aborto!"

Supreme Court decision on Partial Birth Abortion "a major milestone" New Haven, CT- April 18, 2007- "Today's Supreme Court decision in Gonzales v. NY State Catholic Conference statement on Partial Birth Abortion ban

The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision, today upheld the national Partial Birth Abortion Ban. Kathleen M. Gallagher, director of pro-life activities for the New York State Catholic Conference, made the following statement in reaction: “Today’s Court action is a victory for common sense and a victory for unborn children and their mothers. We believe it will restore some sanity and balance to our legal system by placing reasonable restrictions on the out-of-control abortion industry. The consensus of the majority of state legislatures and the federal government was that this abortion method should be banned. We are hopeful that this decision means that the Court has moved past the constitutional overreach of Roe v. Wade and will begin to allow additional regulations and restrictions in this area. After all, regardless of the stage of development or the type of abortion procedure used, the humanity of all unborn children is the same, and we believe they all should be protected in law. “The medical community has testified that the horrific partial birth abortion procedure is never necessary to save a woman's life. Today the Supreme Court by a 5-4 vote upheld the federal ban on partial birth abortion. The key was the replacement of Sandra Day O'Connor on the Court by Samuel Alito. He was the crucial fifth vote.

Ceremony honors firefighters and promotes NY Safe Haven law

The Yonkers Advocates for Life were instrumental in organizing this ceremony.

Yonkers firefighters honored for offering Safe Haven to newborn

The Yonkers-based Advocates of Life organized yesterday's event. The anti-abortion group is known to many city residents as the group that stages prayer protests in front of Planned Parenthood offices at 20 S. Broadway.

Besides praising the firefighters, Advocates of Life's leader Tony Felicissimo had words for the mother who at the time told firefighters that she already had six children and couldn't handle another mouth to feed. The anonymous woman did not attend yesterday's ceremony.

"We also honor the brave mother who made a choice to do the right thing," Felicissimo said.

Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone also attended and called himself a supporter of the Safe Haven law.

Amicone praised the efforts of Nassau County police medic Tim Jaccard, who did not attend. Jaccard helped enact the Safe Haven law seven years ago.

Children First Foundation has successful gala at Lincoln Center

Maybe you were among the lucky ones to attend The Children First Foundation's Gala Concert for Adoption held at Avery Fisher Hall on Wednesday evening, April 11. The appreciative crowd enjoyed both the magnificent New York Philharmonic concert and the CFF reception on the Grand Promenade that followed. Lincoln Center's stunning views created an elegant backdrop to the evening's award ceremony.

Msgr. Finn of St. Joseph Seminary in Yonkers gave the opening invocation. Dr. Elizabeth Rex, CFF co-founder and President, along with her husband Charles (violinist with the NY Philharmonic and co-founder of The CFF) were there to greet and encourage all who came with thanks for each person's own unique contribution to the pro-life cause. Elizabeth introduced Master of Ceremonies, Larry Kudlow as a "pro-life hero in his own right". Mr. Kudlow, a familiar face and voice to many, is CEO of Kudlow & Co., LLC, an economic and investment research firm and host of CNBC's "Kudlow & Company" and host of the Larry Kudlow Show on WABC Radio on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Acknowledging that the true heroes were sitting in the audience, he spoke of his own conversion to Catholicism a dozen years ago as a "great new life given him by Christ". He spoke of his pro-life views as not a popular stance in this business, but one that continually encourages his belief that "anything that can be done should be done" to help a woman in crisis keep her child.

Mr. Timothy Jaccard is a full time Nassau County Police Ambulance Medical Technician. In 1977 he was called to Hempstead to remove the body of a deceased and discarded 6lb. 4oz. infant from a toilet. He was so profoundly moved by the event that he adopted the baby in order to give her a proper burial. Thus began his crusade to insure that "not one single baby is ever thrown in a garbage pail again." Through AMT Children of Hope and his helping to enact the Infant Abandonment Protection Act (also known as the "Safe Haven" Law) now in 47 states, Tim and his wife have held true to that promise. Prior to these laws women faced 4 years imprisonment for abandonment and endangering the welfare of a child if they went to a hospital to give birth. He tells us that 17 children are adopted for every 1,000 abortions. He believes that infant adoption is a "loving, responsible act of a good mother" and not "abandonment". Through public service announcements he has helped enlighten mothers in crisis and the general public of this fact. He believes Safe Haven is needed, but should only be the "last option for the desperate woman". These programs save lives with 87 safe haven relinquishments, 102 adoption plans, 105 parenting choices. His crisis hotline received 2,403 calls for help in 2006. He has had the sad duty of providing dignified funerals and burials for 6 victims of neonaticide in 2006.

“As a counselor I work with many people healing from painful life experiences.  Whether the loss is the death of someone loved, the loss of a relationship, an abortion, a background of abuse, loss of self-esteem, health, hopes or dreams, I find each loss asks its turn to be mourned.  The journey of healing is one of grieving and making peace.”      

This quote reminds me of a talk I heard a priest give once. He was speaking about how people try to slip the "big one" into their confession someplace where it will not be as noticed. To liken an abortion with these other losses is ridiculous and a great injustice to those who are suffering.

Fr. Norman Weslin found not guilty of violating Federal FACE law in Nebraska

Last April Fr. Norman Weslin, founder of the Lambs of Christ, was charged with violating the Federal Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) law. The law passed in the early 1990s' and is aimed directly at pro-lifers who protest at abortion "clinics".

Father was facing 18 months in jail, three years on probation, and a $25,000 fine.

Weslin, 76, was arrested April 24, 2006, when he entered the Bellevue abortion clinic run by Dr. LeRoy Carhart.

The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act forbids the use of "force, threat of force or physical obstruction" to prevent someone from providing or receiving reproductive health services.

Weslin had faced 18 months in a federal prison, three years of probation and a $25,000 fine if convicted.

Weslin, who listed a Council Bluffs address upon his arrest, is described as a missionary anti-abortion Roman Catholic priest who preaches across the country. He is founder of an anti-abortion group called the Lambs of Christ. According to the group's Web site, Weslin has been arrested between 60 and 70 times, and served four months in prison for the 1996 blockade of a clinic in Rochester, N.Y.

He is a member of the Society of the Oblates of Wisdom, a clerical association in La Crosse, Wis.

Weslin's defense attorney, Martin A. Cannon, said that in the Bellevue incident, the priest had knelt in prayer inside a security vestibule and never entered the clinic's office. While inside he occasionally spoke to women "asking them not to kill their baby," Cannon said.

"He also spoke to clinic workers telling them not to work at the clinic and that he would help them find other jobs," Cannon said. "He actually is a kind man, who wouldn't hurt anyone."

U.S. Attorney Joseph Stecher did not return a call seeking comment.

Cannon and co-counsel Matthew F. Heffron said the case came down to a "he said-she said sort of case" with clinic workers testifying that Weslin had blocked the door, making it hard to open, and the elderly priest testifying that he moved out of the way when he felt the door shove up against his shoe.

"Father Weslin is a rather likeable man, and I think the jury just accepted his testimony that he wasn't purposely blocking the door," Cannon said.

Report on a rescue in Pennsylvania

Two Cited at Good Friday Rescue

WARMINSTER, Penn., Apr. 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Over 100 pro-life supporters from the group Survivors United participated in a "rescue" today at an abortion clinic in Warminster, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia. Thirty members of the group risked arrest by conducting a "sit-in" at the abortion clinic doors.

Two people were cited on charges of trespassing. The group of mostly post-Roe young people, led by Survivor United Director Mark Houck and former Operation Rescue leader Mike McMonagle, was informed that the clinic had closed for the day. An estimated 20 abortions had been scheduled.

One pro-life participant was injured when he was struck with a car driven by an angry abortion supporter. The pro-lifer was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, but is expected to make a complete recovery.

"We are seeing more and more young people embracing the pro-life position on abortion, perhaps because so many of their peers have been lost since abortion has been decriminalized," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, who commented on the rescue from his office in Wichita, Kansas. "This next generation takes the loss of life through abortion very seriously, and are willing to step up to a high level of commitment to see to it that innocent lives are spared."

"We applaud those who today displayed Christian love for the pregnant women and their pre-born children by peacefully placing their bodies between the scheduled victims and the abortionist," said Newman. "The Bible tells us that greater love has no man than those who lay down their lives for others."

Stopping the Abortion Juggernaut in Central and South America

Nicaragua last year abolished the sole exception of "therapeutic abortion," and continues to move away from legalized abortion. Not only that, but its strong defense of Life is serving as the catalyst for renewed opposition throughout Latin America to abortion. The result is that the momentum has shifted, and the supposed domino effect is now occurring in the opposite direction. Just last month the Chilean Congress rejected a "therapeutic abortion" bill in record time.

The abortion lobby seems to expect long-established legal systems to simply collapse before their misinformation campaign. But this isn't happening. Instead, they are increasing being defeated by a popular outcry.

Unlike Spain, where pro-choice health officials lied about women's health issues, the prompt action of the Chilean Congress destroyed any opportunity for a pro-death PR campaign. Compare this with Columbia, where a slick PR campaign fooled the public into accepting cleverly worded pro-choice tenets long enough for pro-death legislation to be passed. But
you can't fool all the Latinos all of the time. The fact is, more and more citizens of Latin American countries are aware that they are being lied and manipulated on these issues, and are refusing to compromise. That's why there is a reverse domino effect.

This reverse domino effect may also be affecting Latin American presidential elections, where two anti-American candidates, Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and Evo Morales in Bolivia, opposed to abortion and population control have been elected. The election of these Leftist populists has alarmed neighboring countries. There is no other explanation for the abysmal failure of candidates Lopez Obrador in Mexico and Ollanta Humala in Peru. In Peru, the open support Chavez was catastrophic for Humala's cause.

The European Union and other donors are threatening to cut aid to the poor country of Nicaragua if abortion isn't legalized. This shouldn't surprise us, since it is the practice of the Left everywhere to abrogate democracy when it suits them. When that fails, they seek to overturn decisions made by elected legislators through unelected judges by filing a flurry of
lawsuits.

The focal point of the current struggle is the Supreme Court of Nicaragua. Radical feminist organizations, in conjunction with IPAS (the principal entity behind the infamous hand-held suction abortion machine), have argued that the law abolishing "therapeutic abortions" is not
constitutional. On March 8, pro-abortionists barraged the Nicaraguan judges with a mass media campaign. They held public meetings in the streets and published in two paid ads in La Prensa, the most important newspaper in Managua, the capital city. These meetings and ads featured the tired lie: Abortion must be legalized or women will die.

One ad was paid for by the Inter-American Development Bank, a division of the World Bank, by the foreign aid ministries of the UK, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, and by the embassies of Germany, Austria, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Iceland, Japan, Norway, China and Sweden. All this pressure on little Nicaragua because the people there value life.

But if their support of abortion was more insistent this time, it was also much more subtle. Their ad focused less on failed rhetoric about "reproductive rights" than on emphasizing the purported goal of "stopping violence against women." Nicaragua's total ban on abortion, La Prensa declared in another ad, was the real violence being committed against women. The "international" storm troopers also mentioned the CEDAW committee and their support for its recommendations to the state of Nicaragua on violence against women.

Dr. Erwin Rodriguez, a famous gynecologist whose students constitute the majority of practicing gynecologists in Nicaragua today, also presented testimony. At the end one of the judges, a well known pro-abortion feminist and unreconstructed Sandinista, asked Dr. Rodriguez about the "hard case" of terminal cancer. "Wasn't an abortion necessary then" she asked him. Dr. Rodriguez showed that it was impossible for a woman to conceive in those circumstances.

I am a bit late with this post, but on March 21 we held another Silent No More in Manhattan.

It was a great afternoon with many listening to the witnessing.

George Tiller

I am sure you all have heard of George Tiller...the infamous late term abortion doctor in Kansas.Through my work in post abortion, I have met a few of Tillers former "patients".

I will not go into details, but it wouldn't be exaggerating to say that  his practice is diabolical and the harm he caused these families is heartbreaking.

There is also a young woman, Kelly , who shares with Silent No More.
